Buying fish online (specifically Liveaquaria and Petsolutions)2007-11-24 23:10:23

Has anyone had experience with buying fish online, especially from either Liveaquaria.com and/or Petsolutions.com? I have been through 10 lfs and 4 major (petsmart/petco) stores in my area and cannot find the fish i'm looking for. I really don't want to go online, but if i had to, how are these two sites on their fish? Did anyone have any problems?

I would try Liveaquaria. Only takes a day or 2 for the fish to get there. Usually they give you a guaranteed live delivery or they replace them for you. The only negative part about it, is the shipping! Sometimes it'll be over $30 unless you spend $200

I've never bought online before, too expensive for the shipping IMO, but I've never heard anything negative about liveaquaria.com. I've read on quite a few forums where others have bought from them, and again no complaints at all. I do believe they guarantee they'll arrive alive, and guarantee their health as well. I have bought from their sister site drs. foster and smith various pet supplies, and they're great. Never heard of pet solutions.com .

Chain stores do suck. Have you tried looking in a major city near you? I know I'm in a rural area, not much of a selection pet store wise for anything, and I know going towards the closest major city there's more pet stores with more variety. Good luck!

I wanted to order Karasu (black) koi from LiveAquaria, but they were out of stock. I still plan on ordering from them, however, because as far as online fish go, they seem to have the cheapest and fastest shipping. They have a nice selection and a good guarantee. I haven't heard of Petsolutions.com, though.

I have gotten fish from www.aquabid.com but never the two websites you mention. If the price seems fair to you (including shipping) then go for it. Most of those websites offer some sort of live arrival guarantee when you get Express shipping. Be sure to quarantine any new fish you get, though, before adding them to your tank. They may have an illness or may develop one from the stress of being shipped.
