The rule is one inch of fish per gallon of water. However, neon tetras are small and hardy, as long as there are no other fish in the tank already you should be just fine.

Of course I have 11 finish in 10 gallon tank and those suckers never seem to die. EVER! I'm going on three years now.

Good luck--- JUST DON'T NAME THEM! That's the trick to keeping them alive. The INSTANT you name them its like signing their lives away. :-)

Yes, but they need a filter or something to oxygenate the water. You don't want to put too many fish in that small of a tank either. Neons also like to school together so a bigger tank would be better. Neons are not hardy fish, but very sensitive. Be careful when adding them. Let them stay in the pet store bag and let it float in your tank for about 25-30 minutes to let them acclimate to the temperature. Your water must also be dechlorinated before adding the fish.

No. Neons and all other tetras are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of six or more. You need at least a ten gallon tank to give them ample room to move around.

About the only thing you can put in a 2 gallon tank is a betta.
