Can I keep fish in tupperware with filtration2007-11-24 23:10:39
My dalmation mollie just had babies, i do not have room for them in my 10 gallon and I do not want to give them away. I have a filter and heater my question is can they live in a big tupperware container that is filtered and heated? I need to know ahead of time because I need to cycle it and everything.
Answers:Yes you can do that, just don't forget to treat the water, cycle it and do regular waterchanges
Good luck

Update:
Just saw your addition
How many fish do you have in your tank and what else besides the mollies?
Yes. I bring my goldfish inside during the winter and I put them in a big tupperwear tote with a water filter ect. They do just fine
Umm. Get another tank, just like a small 5 gallon one or whatever. I wouldn't suggest the tupperware, although I suppose it'd be okay... In order for the heater to not completely fry them you'd need to get a really big tupperware thing and keep the heater on really low. You're better off getting another tank, or a small mesh cage for the babies to live in until they're big enough. (You can get those at pet stores, and walmart/target.)
You absolutely can. It's done all the time for hospital tanks and breeding/fry tanks. Just so there is plenty of water for the size and amount of fish you have, there is nothing wrong with using plastic containers.
I would use the tupperware temporarily until you can get a small tank for them.
I wouldn't really suggest it, as the container is thin and subject to room temperature swings.
I would suggest getting a 5 gallon, or larger, tank from the pet store for good measure. The babies won't be babies for long and you can't ALWAYS keep them in the makeshift container.
