Can a terrapin be kept happily in a large aquarium full of water, without anywhere to climb out
my friend has a terrapin in a tank of water. but there are no rocks or anything dry for the animal to climb out on to. is this important? the terrapin has been living like this for several months
Answers:terrapins need to get out of the water to breath or they will drown. Also they like to rest/sleep and eat out of the water. They need light also and treat them like fish as far as water changes and vac the gravel.
Do not keep terrapins with fish or else the fish will become lunch.
My brother lets his terrapin run about on the laminate floor for a short time now and then, I dunno if this a good idea but it dont seem to do him any harm and he looks like he really enjoys him self. He is 7 years old
Without looking at the facts I'd think common sense would dictate s/he needs somewhere to climb onto & have a snooze otherwise he'll get tired flippers from being in the water all the time.
Personally, I'd put the rocks in & then the terrapin can decide for it's self what it wants to do.
His going to have shell rot and if he doesn't get UVB light his shell was soften and lead to his death.
Can anything be kept anywhere happily when not in its own natural environment??????
IT DOES NEED A DRY PLACE GET ROCKS IN "NOW" ta
The terrapin needs to have a somewhere to climb out onto, a piece of wood, tree bark, or a rock they must get air round their body or it will encounter shell and health problems.
I certainly doubt so. Although Terrapins spent most of their times in water and have webbed-feets, their natural habitat are with dry pasture too.
