Can hermit crabs be place in a tank of water2007-11-24 23:10:35Answers:

That depends on the species of hermit. There are some that are considered terrestrial, and they need access to land, freshwater, and saltwater, but it can't be too deep, or they can drown. There are also saltwater hermit crabs used in marine tanks, and these need to be in saltwater all the time. And not just any mixture will do, it needs to be the salt that's used for marine aquariums, and it has to be in the correct concentration as measured with a hydrometer between 1.024-1.026.

If your crabs are ones that you see in stores that are on sand or what looks like peat moss, these are the ones that can't be put in water: http://www.thecrabbagepatch.com/...

If they're in a saltwater aquarium, they have to be in saltwater: http://www.tropicalfishoutlet.com/invert...

No they will drown and die. Pretty much assume if it lives on land in the pet store it should live on land in your home.
if it's salt water.but they are hard to maintain
If you want to kill them.

Hermit crabs are land-dwelling. They do not swim and need a dry land habitat to be healthy.

The common land hermit crabs that you buy at the mall or in a pet store are land only. They will drown. There are many saltwater hermit crab species, and they stay in the water. (You don't take them out and play with them).
I wouldn't recommend it. I had two in a 10 gallon tank with some fish and had to get a turtle island to stick to the side and some plants so they could climb up and sit on the island above water. They will drown if kept in water. Also, if there's no land, they'll find a way to get there. Mine climbed up the heater and still somehow got out, before I got the island. Hope this helps!
Not if their land hermit crabs. Only water hermit crabs. Do some research before you try it.
No, because they need some access to land.

NOOOOO they need to breath air. It's okay for them to be in low water only for a little while so they can bath themselves to get sand and other things off of em but other than that, they'll drown
only if you hate them
No you can not put them in a tank of water. They are land lovers. The only time they need to be in water is when you give them a bath once a week and then for just a minute.
