You can keep Guppies and Danios without a heater. But that is assuming your room temperature is about 70+ degrees. They will all need a filter though. In a 6 gallon tank, you could keep 5 MALE Guppies. No Danios! Danios are far to hyperactive for a 6 gallon tank. They will soon hurt themselves on the walls. Try White Cloud Minnows instead, they are coldwater fish, stay small, and are not overly active. Email me if you have any questions.

ADDITION: There are Rosy Red Minnows, but they are intended to be feeder fish...

EDIT: Lamps should never be used as heaters! When you turn off the light for the night, that causes temperature fluctuation that is not good for the fish. If you are going to heat the tank, get a heater...

You must have a heater since they are "tropical fish". Constant water temp is a must. Be careful of the gouramis as they can eat the neon's. My brothers took out 15 neon's in two days. Figure out what fish you want and find out how big they will get. Then one inch of fish per gallon. Good luck

no you cannot they need a heater they are aquatic fish, perhaps you should go for cold water fish but they take as much looking after any aquatic centre will help you

It's best to keep a heater on ANY tank. Even coldwater tanks, in my opinion, need it in there to maintain a STABLE temperature. The heater might not turn on for months out of the year, but during those nights when the temperature drops suddenly, there's no reason for your fish to have to endure swings in temperature which are very stressful for them. Heaters don't cost that much.
