Can i mix colorful fish in with baby red ear slider turtles2007-11-24 23:10:41

I have two baby red earslider turtles (one year old each). They live in a 30 or 40 gallon tank with 9 goldfish. I want to put other fish in there but I can't put colorful ones because they say turtles will eat them. haha thats what Petco said when I bought my goldfish, I lied and told them I had two tanks. The goldfish have been living with my turtles for a whole year, and the turtles have only eaten ONE! (it was my fault i went on vacation for two weeks, I bought them digesting food and i guess it wasn't enough and they ate one. i felt really bad) anyways my point is hey don't harm the goldfish, is it safe??

Answers:

red eared sliders only eat very small fish(gold fish or guppys ) when there very young themselves.

As they get larger and older they no longer actively eat fish unless there starving.

They do eat plants(like for fish tanks) .. money wart plants they love. You can add snails,,and sometimes will eat ghost shrimp..If you choose to add more fish.. just remember they "could" take a bite out them now and then. Its up to you to take that chance or not.

i wouldnt try it because turtles will eat them...dont waste your money if your gonna just put them to there death. put them in another tank if you want fish.

As soon as those sliders can, they'll eat your fish. It's good to keep live food in with them, then they can eat when they want.
