Guppy fry when are born are strong swimmers, change your filter low or lower than what what it is set on now. Most likely your fry won't get sucked into the filter unless they are dying or sick. If you are really worried about their survival get a sponge filter, I recommend that you get a sponge filter for egglaying fish because the fry are much smaller than livebearers.

you should a a sponge over the filter intake so the water is still being filtered but the fry wont get sucked in.
My friend bred guppies and we managed to find a way to keep them from being eaten by the filter monster! There is a sponge-type of filter guard that you can put over the suction tube in the tank, and so the water is still able to stay clean, but the guppy fry are too big to fit through all the little holes.

Yes you can, but you really don't have to go that far to be honest. I filter my 20 gallon tank with an Aquaclear 50 which filters at a rate of 200 gallons per hour. Quite excessive for that, but it does not generate a massive current in the whole tank, but is pretty strong at the entry point of the water surface. I've had guppies breed in there, and do not get stuck in the filter. A better alternative would be use a breeding box which stays in the water itself and isolates the mother so the fry that are expelled move to the lower portion and seperated from the main group. You can keep that group of fry in that box for a couple weeks and feed them infusoria and crushed flakes until they are big enough to join the community.

Get a piece of nylon (like from an old pair of pantyhose) and a rubber band. Put the nylon over the opening of the intake pipe and secure it with the rubber band. The water will still flow through but the fry can't get sucked up.
i have guppy's also and you now when you go to the shoe store and they have those nylon you put on your feet before you try them on .i raped that around my whole pump so nothing gets stuck in them
