Can someone tell me what happened to my fish2007-11-24 23:10:49

I just set up this 30 gallon aquarium and all the levels were good and filters are working air everything. I had 6 swordtails and 6 some other grey looking fish(cant remember what they are) and 3 plecos. Well I swordfish and pleco died and we removed them from the tank. But some how we are still missing 3 fish?? What the hell could have happened? We cant find them anywhere. Can someone please tell me what could possibly have happened??

The tank is severely overstocked. Your fish are dyeing from "new tank syndrome" most likely. The bodies are either hidden well (you'd be surprised how well dead fish bodies can hide!), they've been eaten, or got stuck in the filter (depending on what type of filter you have). OR...they jumped. If there are any cracks on top where the fish can get out they might have jumped.

BTW each common pleco needs at least 65 gallons to itself because they get monstrously huge!

Jeez thats werid! Well one of the other fishes could have eating them, like my suckerfish ate EVERYTHING in it's tank.

maybe they were eaten by the bigger fish or perhaps the little ones were sucked in through the tubes and got stuck somewhere in there or maybe they're hiding somewhere.check underneath the leaves and plant stuff.

I know this doesn't help, but my boyfriend bought 4 fish. One died, and they threw it away. The next day, he had 4 fish, and it was a full grown one, not a baby one. Now it is called the Jesus fish. Anyway, it is possible that they were eaten.

If there was enough size difference, then the plecos may have eaten the other fish. My plecos did that before. There's also the slight possibility that the fish died and are stuck to or in the filter. Additionally, some fish blend into the substrate so if they died, maybe they're on the bottom blending in.

Too many fish in the tank is one thing. The other three fish are probably dead, and floating behind a plant or ornament in the tank. When you removed the swordtail and the plecostomus, you might of buried the other fish under the rock bedding. Becareful with the plecos in your tank. They get big real quick. They will eventually outgrow the tank. They may even get so big that they could break the glass. One pleco is plenty for a 30 gallon tank. My pleco got to 15 inches!!

umm.. Maybe the bigger fish ate The smaller fish ... or they could have jumped up and into the floor and maybe someone took it and thew it away
