Can these guys live together
ive got a 20 gallon tank with 2 algue eaters and we want to put in some snails and maybe frogs and some angel fish. can they all live well together? what other fish could go in there and how many of each should i get? and with there food what all do they eat? i would like an active community tank. thanks for any help!
Answers:Depending on what type of Algae Eaters, possibly. Chinese and Gold Algae Eaters will attack slow moving fish (like Angels) as they mature, and should really not be used. But Plecostomus also eat algae, and are generally peaceful. Plecos, however, generally get very large (some almost 2 feet) and are not suitable for a 20 gallon tank. If you want Angelfish, 2 would be the most you could keep, and they will limit your other inhabitants with their size (6+ inches each). With 2 Angelfish, you could keep some larger Tetras or, Rasboras or, or Killifish, along with some frogs. That is pretty much all the fish you can have without cramping them too tightly.
The fish will eat flake food and should be supplemented with foods like bloodworms and brineshrimp (live or frozen). The frog will need a special food, or daily bloodworms. Because the frog will be so much slower than the fish, it will be very difficult to feed him...
Here is the tank plan I would suggest:
2 Angelfish
7 Tetras (not Neons or Cardinals, they will be eaten by the Angels) or 7 Killifish, or 7 Rasboras
3 Cory Cats
This will give you a colorful, active, happy tank. If you need any info about maintenance, email me and I will help you out.
