Can u tell the gender of plecos
is there a wasy to tell the gender?
Answers:can vary from plec species to plec species.
for instance, the bristlenose is easy to tell, an adult male will have a head covered in "bristles", whereas the female will have none, or only a couple.
female plecs are often broader in the mid-section to male plecs.
but as i said, it can vary vastly from species to species, what kind of plec do you have?
edit: I doubt it's a true zebra pleco you have, they cost several hundred to buy! but there are several plecs out there that look similar. common names can actually be stuck on up to 5 different species of plec! i'd do some research and get the latin names of your fish.
with one Snowball Plec i could find (link below) Hypancistrus inspector, it was said:
"The female is black-brown with white spots while the male has a lot more reddish tones in its colours and white spots. The male has strong odontodal growth while the female has almost none and is a lot fuller and rounder in body shape."
I really dont think. . . Sorry
You can tell the sex of many plecos only when they get atleast 5-6 " But it is hard to gauge unless you have several of the same species to compare If you look at them from the top the males boney pectoral fins will be much longer than the females
