Can you keep a male and female guppy together in the same tank2007-11-24 23:10:55

i have a two gallon tank with a filter and heater. i dont know if they're gonna fight or not

Answers:

No Male and female guppies do not fight they do well in a tank to get there but make sure if you fish have baby's that you have another tank to put the baby's in after or grass or a birthing net.. If you do put the baby's in another tank make sure you let it run a while before or while the mother is having the baby's and when she is done put the baby's in the other tank and feed the mother immediately she will be very hungry...putting the baby's in another tank is the best way to ensure there survival..

Good luck with you fish!(guppies)

They dont fish they have a million babies
Male & female guppies get along just fine & do not fight. In fact they like the company so much that they make more!
NO, they don't fight, they start making babies. Get some grass either real or plastic for the babies to live in (hide) until they are big enough. Many years ago I had guppies and we always had 1 male to 2 female. Also the PH of the water determines the sex of the babies. (Not proven)
Lol, I have a ton of guppies, i love them, they dont fight or anything, they have babys ike crazy though...

yes you should becuase male & male = fight and female & male = not fight
it should be fine now the female will get annoyed by the male so 2 female and 1 male is perfect but you should not have a problem they will be a bit Territorial at first but thats natral
Absolutely yes, does your aquarium have decorations or something because guppies doesnt distinguish their young from food. Guppies are live bearers thats why when they spawn, they scatter their young on the bottom tank, helpless fry stays at the bottom for few days before they swim. In this stage they are very susceptible to predators that is why they must have a place where they could hide and keep warm. You should provide plants that resembles a carpet on the floor. In which the fry could stay warm and away from predators. You could also put marbles and stack them up so that the fry would fall between crevices and be safe.
no not guppies !!
They will not fight, they'll just produce lots of babies.

Definitely get a bigger tank. They wouldn't fight, but would have tons of babies... They'll need more room to be able to move about freely and be happy, especially when they start to grow. So..I would get a bigger tank, 10 gallon would be good for a couple guppies and their fry. I know you don't have fry right now, but give it a month, and you'll have anywhere from 10-30 little guppies swimming around.
They wont fight. If you think they will because the male nips at the females fins it is just because the male is wanting to breed. But dont worry they wont fight. Bettas will fight. But guppies wont.
