No. You can't.

You can sometimes put a cleaner fish like a pecostomous in with a chinese fighting fish. Make sure it's around the same size as the betta. Too big, and it'll kill the betta; too small and the betta kills it. If they're around the same size, they'll generally leave one another alone. The pecost. never stops growing, but if it has a fairly peaceful relationship with the betta from the start (peaceful: aka: ignoring one another) then when it gets bigger there usually isn't any prob.

im sorry but that is a TERRIBLE idea! for one thing fighting fish and a goldfish is a bad idea because the fighting fish will actually EAT your gold fish and another thing they will do the same with each other because they are VERY territorial

If you mean a betta, it's not a good idea. First of all, bettas are tropical fish and goldfish are coldwater fish. Since betta are hardy fish and are used to difficult conditions, and can usually tolerate life in a tank without a heater, they could probably handle the water temp that a goldfish prefers, but it would be a tolerate situation, not an ideal or comfortable one for the betta. Also, goldfish need large tanks and good filters because they are very messy and grow very large. The size a small-finned goldfish grows to would eventually terrorize or even eat a betta. A smaller, fancy goldfish would have flowing fins, which a male betta would see as too similar to another male betta and attack. A female betta might be ok with a small fancy goldfish, but really their tank requirements and preferences of living conditions are quite different. So,it's possible, but not an ideal pairing.

Before I answer,let me assume you're referring to bet tas,or Siamese fighting fish.They are aggressive towards others of their own kind,especially males against other males. They are warm water tropicals and slow moving. The goldfish will nip at their long and tasty fins.They cannot compete successfully for food. You can only put one male in a tank,and leave the goldfish out.Goldfish are cold water freshwater fish.
