I would go with crushed coral. Sand is hard to keep clean and you need animals to sift it like sea stars or snails. Don't use stuff from home depot or anything like that your pet store sells non living sand use that and maybe a cup or two of live sand to jump start the other sand
Live sand is basically sand with living organisms in it and when you buy it most of them are dead and regrow, when you buy regular sand it will eventually turn into live sand but with less kinds of organism, what you can do is buy half live sand and half regular sand.
Live sand will help speed your cycle but you don't have to use all live sand you can mix aragonte sand with the live.I would put arrogant sand in the tank and the live on top..I wouldn't use crushed coral. It will cause nitrate spikes later on if you do not keep it clean and you can't keep goby's and some other bottom feeders with crushed coral..Goby's sift sand through there mouth and crushed coral will cut their mouths and kill them.
