Cleaning a Fish Tank

Cleaning a Fish Tank2007-11-24 23:11:01

I've recently lost a tank load of tropical fish to Whitespot. I'm wanting to thouroughly clean out the tank and start afresh...

Whats the best materials/chemicals to use thats not going to be harmful to the new fish I put in there?

Thanks in advance :)

Answers:

just a 100% WC with some hot water.

If your tank ever crashes, thats what i would do.

Allow it to run for 4days to a week and then start stocking.

Remember to stock slow and not alot, if not, thats how you bring in diseases to the fish tank.

Do NOT put ANY kind of soap in it. Clean it with table salt, rinse with 1 part vinegar/3 part water solution and rinse twice more.
You're talking about a disease called ich. The best thing to do is simply rinse everything completely, including the filter and let it all dry out completely. If you can't do that there are medications you can buy specifically for ich. You should refrain from putting cleaning fluids in your tanks as some of them leave a deadly or harmful residue.
when i had that problem i was adviced to completly empty the tank and sterilise it with milton as this kills most germs
you need to clean the tank out and scrub any ornaments and throw away the gravel and buy new,I'm sorry you lost your fish, its quite unusual for all fish to get the white spot if caught early enough.
