Cloudy fish tank
Ive had my fish tank for many years and never had a problem now its gone cloudy. It was a green and cloudy to start with so i covered the tank from the sun and the green colour has gone but the water is still cloudy. Ive never had any problems before and ive not changed anything in the tank. Ive done water changes and cleaned the filter but the water goes cloudy again.
Answers:check your ammonia levels, you might have an ammonia spike in there
Did you clean the tank completely at some point?
If so, you have a cycle starting again

Sounds to me like a build up of ammonia.
Or are you overfeeding??
The Nitrifying bacteria colony either died,or was greatly reduced for some reason. The grey cloudiness is caused by other,less benevolent bacteria. These will eventually run out of nutrition and fade away,and the water will clear. Until that happy day(usually a few weeks down the road),just keep testing the water and doing small,frequent water changes so your fish won't get sick and let the "good" bacteria colony regain it's strength and everything should be OK. Be patient and the bacteria will balance things out on their own.
You could be looking for causes for the crash,and since it turned green first the cause could be over-feeding,not enough water changes,too large of a water change,chlorine in the water,sudden temperature changes,and anything else that could damage the bateria colony.
This can often happen with an established tank and is usually because of high nitrate levels. Check all of your chemical levels and do a 20% water change. have you added plants/gravel/decor latley? that is a problem I often come across is dusty gravel clouding up the water. You can buy different types of water conditioners that bind the tiny particles together and will get picked up by the filter. Chances are it is infusoria or a similar organism. Nothing to worry about, just do a 20% water change and add a little Water Crystal clear.
