Convict Cichlids
Convict Cichlids2007-11-24 23:11:04
I have a 4 year old male convict. He is about the size of a tea cup saucer. His tail is very long and it has these 1/4 inch extentions coming off of every ripple in the tail. it is really pretty. But his tail is split right up the middle. Is that normal, none of my other convicts have that, will it heal/grow back and does it hurt? Thank you
Answers:He may have been nipped at by other fish or got it caught in an ornament. It should heal back pretty quickly. If you want it to heal faster, isolate him into a hospital tank. Honestly you probably don't have to do much to help it heal along. As long as the other fish don't keep picking on him it'll be ok.
I had this happen to my fish when I had them, but it was cause I had too many cichlids in the tank and they were fighting.
However yes it is normal.
you should go to the pet store or google the information you are seeking. and whether it hurts or not, i seriously doubt it.
He probably got it caught on something or another cichlid nipped at him.It will heal eventually just keep his water good and clean.
it will heal as long as the other convicts leave it alone
