my goldfish, cosmo has come down with columnaris (http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/diseas...

he has a cotton wool like growth on his mouth, and is acting in a very lethargic manner. he was a new arrival at the shop, and then i bought him and took him home, so im assuming the stress from all the moving has caused this. this has happened in the space of 3 days, and i'm hoping he'll pull through and make it until tomorrow morning, when i can go to the shops and get some medicine for it.

i was just wondering, what kind of thing should i be looking for? is it something like tetra goldmed i should be buying? or something completely different?

please help, i don't want him to die!

Hi Littlestargirl, The attached link from a recent similar query should help you determine if it really is Columnaris or a fungal infection as they both have similar symptoms. Good luck-I hope you can save him.

I would do a TON of research on it and talk to a petsmart or petco person. They would know best. If it's really bad, then find their number in the phone book and call them saying you have a fish question. That worked for my betta (who's name is also Cosmo) and he's all better now. But if your fishie does happen to die, then you can return him and get a new fish no charge, unless you've had him for over two weeks.

Just make sure not to do anything that could cause the fish stress until tomorrow. If you know exactly what the disease is, then you can ask a sales person about it. Otherwise, bring them a picture of your fish (if possible) and a list of the fishes symptoms and they should be able to help you.
