I put 2 angelfish and one yellow gourami in my 55 gallon tank yesterday, which i started on saturday. One of the angels died, after swimming upside down, lying on the bottom, swimming vertically, not moving, and being stuck to the filter. what was wrong with it? the other 2 fish seem fine

Angel fish are not very good fish to start with. Your tank has to go through the nitrogen cycle befor you can start adding more delicate fish. Do you have a test kit to test your water for pH amonia nitrite and nitrate? When a tank is new all of these water parameters are gonna go out of line and can cause your fish to get ill and die. The tank needs to gain more beneficial bacteria that breaks down the waste produced by the fish. Since the tank is new you dont have enough of that bacteria in the tank that can handle the bio load of all the fish you have. Some fish are less sensitive than others Angel fish are one of the more sensitive ones. So i assume you either have high ammounts of ammonia in the water and or high ammount of nitrites. Both of these will poison your fish. If you notice any of the other fish sitting near the filter return, in the bubbles,laying on the gravel, or swimming eradicly this is good indication one or more of those levels are out of line. You should check the water to find out what the problem is and if one of those levels is too high you should do a 25%-30% water change. that will help bring the levels down to something somewhat more tolerable for the fish. By doing water changes now in a new tank that hasnt cycled than you are prolonging the process but is neccesary to keep the fish alive.
