Do female or male guppy fry grow faster And a few more questions
I am raising guppies and two of the fish are much larger then the others. Also, do male or female fry get their colors first? One of my guppies was born brown. Is this bad? Do I have to separate each batch of guppies to avoid inbreeding? Can someone please explain more about inbreeding in guppies? Thank you!
Answers:Guppies don't grow at different rates just because of their sex, but some can be "early bloomers" regardless of sex, much like when we grow up. Hard-core breeders have found for decades, though, that the "early bloomers" tend to be less colorful and the late bloomers tend to be more desireable breeding stock. Regardless of sex, they should be "mature" at about 3 months. It really shouldn't hurt to breed the brothers and sisters together, most guppies come from breeders that routinely inbreed their stock, though most who sell to pet stores will cross-breed among different strains before selling a group of guppies to a pet store (this prevents someone from getting prime breeding stock at low pet-store prices). Since you probably got them from a fish store that kept the guppies from several breeders and/or several different color lines together, there is probably quite a bit of diversity in their line at that point. if you really are concerned with inbreeding, you could either buy one more guppy every three-four generations and toss it in the mix, or sepatate your guppies and maintain two different "family trees" in different tanks, and swap a few back and forth every two-three generations. As for the brown guppy, he will probably change color most interestingly when he's grown up a bit. I had one come out a wierd grayish-blue color once, and he turned out beautiful when he was fully grown.
no. they should grow about th same rate those 2 are just getting more food than the others. seperate those and maybe feed them crushed up flakes. im not sure about your brown guppy... maybe you have created a new color variation, try to keep that one alive and see what it looks like when its older. it takes a while for your guppies to be breedable, and with big fish farms and even at home breeders, they sometimes inbreed to get that perfect strain. it takes about 5 generations to have some defects. i would think males get their colors first
