Frequent, small (10%) water changes (by vacuuming the gravel) are the best bet. Any chemicals to "clean" the tank don't really work, they just disguise it.

Water "purifiers" may be a temporary fix, but in the long run, they just create chemical imbalances...
Water changes ad even comertial water purifiers like Seachem water stabaliser
I WOULD ONLY USE CHEMICLES IF THERE ARE FISH IN THE TANK dont if the tank is only still cycling, thats why you cycle the tank
Definately no chemicals
If you have a new tank it's in the cycle process, that is pretty normal, and will settle on its own, here is some more info though
