I'm getting a Betta fish tomorrow but my parents were giving me a funny look when i told them. I have read everything i need to know about them but i want to know are they worth it? would a hermit crab be more of a fun pet? i have two dogs so a rabbit wouldn't be a good idea at the moment. Are there any more good pets available to get that are in the same maintenance level as the Betta fish?
Answers:i have had over 50 hermit crabs. they make great pets but they dont move around much during the day, this is when they sleep. i have found a new love for fish and they are awesome pets. get one of both. they are both easy to care for and cheap!
Fish make great pets, the level of attention they require initially keeps you occupied for several weeks. The cycling process is really cool.
Hermit crabs are very fun and cute to look at but they are NOT easy to care for like many people think, and you better have a lot of extra money laying around because your hermit crabs set up will cost you at least 100$+. It would be a good idea to stick with the betta fish because they are easy to care for, with hermit crabs you need to get a minimum 10 gallon tank, lid, hygrometer, thermometer, spare shells, deep sand, bathing dishes, to name a few. Also if you want a hermit crab you have to get more then one. I have fish and hermit crabs at my house and the fish are by far the easiest to care for. If you are looking for a low maintenance pet then hermit crabs aren't for you :)
