Fresh water shrimp2007-11-24 23:32:26

I am thinking of scooping out a small dam or pond and putting some shrimp in ,will they breed? will they live on the natural algy that will grow? or do we have to feed them something else? Will be using them as live bait.

Thanks

Lots of variables there that will contribute to or prohibit your success, not the least of which is your local climate. I'm sure you have thought of that one already and know whether or not they can withstand your local winters. I don't think it will be a very simple undertaking but it's worth a try I think, you may be able to one day have a self sustaining pond but i am sure you will have to do some feeding during the early stages of your pond.

Try it and see.

Use only native shrimp. You don't want to accidentally release an invading species into your ecosystem.

You can look up the type of shrimp you want and see what they need to survive. Type it into Yahoo Search

Apparently, raising freshwater shrimp is both popular and lucrative.
