I've wondered what the mortality rate is. Any stories to share?
Answers:I have bought hundreds of fish online. The price of overnight airfreight is expensie, but if you are getting the fish themselves for a really good price, it evens out and you can get them much cheaper, healthier, and in breeds you would never find locally. I specialize in African cichlids, and I've literally had tons of fish shipped to me with never a single loss. I've heard horror stories about using USPS priority express (I think it's a 2-day service). So, I've always gotten airfreight, but the fish arrive great if they are from a reputable breeder.
I have bought bettas from the internet. I think they were nicer than the fish you can get at like PetSmart. The breeders really do cool things with the fish. They also packed them up really nicely and none died in transit or soon after. I think most good breeders online will have some sort of policy about fish that are dead on arrival. No regrets here.

I have thought about buying goldfish online but I am afraid that they will either die or arrive and it not be the fish I wanted.That is why I have never bought them online.
Usually most places have some sort of live delivery guarantee with them. I bought some game fish (not tropicals, but natives to my area of the country), and the place I ordered them from guaranteed live delivery - I ordered 3 and received 4. Perhaps that is one of the measures they take to guarantee live delivery - I dunno - but all 4 are happy, healthy, and taking over my tank as I speak!
www.aquabid.com my friend has gotten alot of bettas from there as well as other breeders who sell their fish online. Also another person I know ordered a snake online. If it is a reputable site, it should be safe.
