3 or 4 years is actually not bad figure, as they normally in 2-3 years. But someone I know had a gold fish that lived 10 years+. The fish used to eat everything, (like rice, spaghetti etc. really everything) and at the end, it was so big that it didn't look like a gold fish any more. Look after your fish.

I bought my son a goldfish about eight years ago and it's still going strong. My niece who was then 3 years old, lifted it out the bowl , took it outside and rolled it in a plant pot. We couldn't believe it survived, it resembled a floating stick. On another occasion it jumped out the bowl and landed on the floor. We then gave it to my dad who had a fish tank, and he woke one morning to find the tank had a crack in it and all the water had come out, and the fish were lying in the bottom of the tank. Again my son's fish survived. It has now lost all the gold colour and is almost all white/silver. It has got a lot bigger and fatter and is as strong as ever. You could have your fish for a long time yet - I'll send my niece down to show you how it is done. lol.

sad to say but goldfish in captivity live very short lives when compared to how long they would have survived in the wild. a typical commet can live into its teens and there have been koi that have lived well past 100.

god knows! Mines over 10 yrs old now and still happily swimmin around! He jumped out once in the middle of the night and spent several hours on the side and dried up! My dad found him and put him back in, he swam tilted for a while but he soon recovered!
