How long can goldfish live without food2007-11-24 23:33:50

I will be out of town for a month and there's no one I can ask to feed my goldfish .

Answers:

You can always take the goldfish with you or buy a automatic fish feeder that will feed your fish for you while you are gone.

you`d have to ask a vet or a animal specialist about that one , there may be different times a goldifh can go w/out food.!

i believe atleast a week/ the pet stores or dept stores sell feeder tablets you just pop it in the bowl and they are good for a wek some a month

Man I can not belive you have no one to ask to feed a Gold Fish. Thank gooodness you don,t have a dog.

If you have an aquarium.not a bowl.with filtration, your fish will be fine. Goldfish do not feed during the winter as there is little food available, so the cooler the better. Also trust no one to feed your fish, they always overfed and pollute the water. If your fish is in a bowl, the water quality will deteriorate and you fish may die of ammonia poisoning or acidification. Do not use one of the time release blocks.they only work to a degree and are not very nutritious for your pet.

It will die. I would say they would live for about 3-4 days without food so.you're screwed.

Try to get someone to get to your house every 3 days or so. I have a bad feeling that if you are gone for a month they will die. Also you can get one of those food pyrmind things that last like a week or so.

Not to be a smarty pants , but depending on where you are going and how you are traveling you can take the fish with you. You can get a small Betta tank for less than 10.00. Goldfish do not need filters or the bubble stones to live. After you put the fish in the betta tank with water from their aquarium or bowl,use duct tape around the edges to prevent leaks and get a small box to set tank in. I had one that traveled with me and my kids when we went out of town and were gone for at least 2 weeks. We just made sure we feed the fish every 3 days(goldfish do not need to eat everyday, recommendations from or local fish supplier) and changed the water once a week with bottle water that was room temperature. If this is not an option, consult your local fish supplier and they can direct you on what you will need to do. Good luck.

you can leave goldfish for a few days, but the food tablets you drop in could make the water cloudy. If your away, who will do the water changes?
