I don't know, mine always die after a couples months. THen there was that one i accidentally killed. I cried :(

We have had quite a few, and they usually live 1-2 years, but believe it or not, I got the oldest daughter one for her 15th birthday, and she is going to be 19 in Nov., and the little guy is still alive. It's in a good size fish bowl, and very happy.

I have had many beta fish and it all depends on the water I think. The longest one has lived for me is 2 years. Most people I know who have them they barely last 6 months and then their children get upset. Be sure to check the PH balance often and keep his bowl clean regularly.

i guess it depends. i had one for almost 3 years. and i know some one whose had one for about 6. but average is about 2.

the average live span of a betta fish is 2 yrs , some have been known to live longer , the key to having a healty active betta fish is regular tank cleaning to keep the bacteria etc down , keeping the water temp at the right temp , giving the right foods in the right amount etc , but the normal live span is 2 years

i don't know how long they usually live, i have one that is over a year old! no lie, i don't know if this is weird, or what, but i think it shouldve died a while back.

You already have alot of good answers, but I will throw my 2 cents in anyways. I had a beta, George, that I enherited with a job, he was about 1 year old when I took him. I moved him from a tiny tank to a 1.5 gallon tank and changed the water completely every week with store bought generic brand distilled water. He lived another 4 years, and was soo freindly, he would swim up to the top of the tank and let me pet him. I did not let him get stressed out, I used a clear glass to catch him every time I changed the water so he wouldn't freak out. I took him home with me on holidays, but only fed him on weekdays. And he ate alot! I have had other beta's since then, but not so stingent on the water thing, tried leaving the tap water out for a couple of days so that the chemicals would evaporate, but they all died in a few months. I miss George! Boo Hoo!

2 to 5 years is what im told by the local fish store i go to. They have clients as far as alaska and they have not yet made a mistake regarding my fish.
