How old is my aquarium2007-11-24 23:34:52

I have a 150 gallon aquarium that has a steel frame coverd with chrome, a slate bottom and a black tar like substance for the sealant. Any guess' how old it is or where I might be able to find out. I do know it's an antique, but I want details.Year made..What's it worth.. Who made it(company).And so forth.

Try antiques shops, or even ask at a Pet Shop to see if they know of anyone that specialises in this kind of field.

I have one of them too but mine is only a 10 gallon. It used to be my moms from the 70's, what year it was made in and what company made it I don't know though, I don't even know if it was a new tank when she got it. If it is still in good condition, no leaks or cracks then it will obviously be worth more then a broken one but I don't really know how in demand they are when you can go get a brand new one at any petstore. If you find the right market for people who would want something like that then I think you should at least get a few hundred bucks for it but that is just a guess.

I don't know that there is a way to scientifically determine the age of an Aquarium except for perhaps the craftsmenship.

I would just check with some of your LFS's to see if in fact anyone might still be around who made the tank. Take a picture of it, and see what you can find out that way.
