I just bought a male betta How big can it grow2007-11-24 23:36:43

I have heard that the bigger the tank a fish is put in, the larger it will grow. But I have only seen betta's in small containers.

We have a Betta, and he's nearly five years old! We had him in a small container, then a bigger one, then a bigger one, just because he seemed bored after a while in the smaller ones. He has grown to about three inches in length and has beautiful, long fins. He's absolutely gorgeous! So I say, the larger the tank the better, and don't forget to use water treatment to take the chlorine and stuff out of his water, feed him only a small amount once or twice a day, and he'll live a long time and grow quickly.

Don't know. but you should play with him by holding a small mirror up to to the bowl once in awhile- he will think it's another beta and puff up and follow it around the edge. They're fun.

A betta's body will get no bigger than 2 inches, but count on adding another inch for the finnage.

A bigger environment will not allow your betta to grow any bigger, however, it is easier to control your water parameters in a bigger tank. The better the quality of water, the longer he'll live. If you keep them in a filtered tank and do weekly water changes to keep the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates down, he will live for 3-5+ years.
