I just got three fish: different types How do i keep them Alive2007-11-24 23:36:47

One large medium goldfish, a baby goldfish, and a nother that i don't know what type. The bowl is about a foot long, maybe bigger. How much food? any plants or small "caves" to hide in? howbout filters?

well it sounds like you have a 10 gallon (use a empty 1 gal. milk jug to fill the tank to get an idea how many gallons it is) so you know how much you have .. fish need at least 1 gallon per 1 inch of fish ex: one goldfish that will grow 6+ inches needs 6+ gallons.goldfish get5,8,10+ inches or so.if you have too many fish in the tank it will slowly kill them.you will get ammonia spikes ect.and if add/change water you need to add dechlorinater or let it set out 24 hrs or so. or it will quickly kill the fish.. to help establish and maintain the water use cyle a liquid you add that contains the benifical bacteria .. get a good filter and one that is over rated for the amount you have ex: if it is a 10 gal. get a 20-30 gal. filter(and change the media monthly) .i also recomend quick dip water tests to check the water every so often.and change1/4 % of the water weekly .goldfish are more dirty than most..good luck i hope i helped. find a goldfish blend and only feed how much the eat in 2-3 mins. over feeding them will cause ammonia build up and that slowwly kills the fish.deco. add some to hide but still leave room to swim and roam.. i would get a larger tank the bigger the easier to care for and the healtier the fish.also when you first set up a tank you will have a period where the water gets cloudy and the ammonia is high and fish often die.it is known as new tank syndrome.it is best to allow the tank to establish before getting the fish

Well you just feed them maybe two pinches of food and you really don't need that. My parents bought $300.00 worth of stuff for the fish and they ended up dying. And we did everything it said when the people at the pet shop tried to question us. The people were trying to think why did they die.

Next time try finding all this stuff out before you buy the animal.
