I just want a fish bowl or 2 gall aquarium, what kind of fish (not a beta) can survive in such a sma2007-11-24 23:33:57

My important someone has a birthday coming up. He loves fish so I'm taking him to the state aquarium but i want to surprise him with a very small aquarium for his very very small college living quarters. I have a beta so I want to get him something different. What kinds of fish can survive in a small small tank?

Answers:

I'm not sure that any fish can survive in it exept for two types of fish:

(1) Betta

(2) Rosy Reds or whatever the name was, it can be fed to most reptiles

Oh, and they eat those goldfish flakes I think. You might not want to buy one because they're very small, beleive me.

GOLDFISH
1 or 2 goldfish in the same tank
Do NOT put goldfish in there. Bowls and small tanks are a death trap for them. They grow super large and need large aquariums with excellent filteration. They will suffer and die a slow, painful death in small unfiltered tanks.

I wouldn't even recommend puting a betta in there either. They deserve swimming room as much as the next fish.

Honestly, there are no fish that would do well in that tiny of a tank. A 5 gallon could house a betta. Or look into African Dwarf Frogs. Also ghost shrimp.

Guppy or Goldfish
i htink two- three gold fish

the small kind

No bowls. Get a 2.5 gallon or so and you can get either 4 rosy red minnows (boring! if you ask me), 4 male OR female guppies, 6 neon tetras, 4 tetras of any other sort, 2 platies, 2 mollies, 2 swordtails, or ONE dwarf gourami. If the dorm is usually cold or has an inconsistant temperature, everything except the rosy reds need a heater. You can mix those with in reason, meaning you could get two male guppies and a molly. Or you could have 3 neon tetras, and 2 black widow tetras. Or you could get 2 female guppies and 3 neon tetras. Or you could get a molly and a platy, and so on and so forth. Try to stick to the numbers. All of the fish will need a filter, you can get a small cheap filter, but you need one. And you should get a lid too.

So you'll need:

*Fish (as said above)

*2+ gallon tank with lid

*Filter (small, but best you can afford)

*heater (small, appropriate to tank size)

*1 inch layer of gravel (thoroghly rinsed)

*dechlorinator (prefferably with stress coat)

*Tropical Fish Flake food

*Optional Decor (appropriate to tank size)

Good Luck, and PLEASE do not put a goldfish in that tank, the stupidest people in the world are the ones who suggest that a) a goldfish live alone and b)2 or more goldfish be put in ANY tank under 10 gallons, especially and tank that has no filter
