I like to have fish but wonderind is there any varieties small other than goldfish as can only have2007-11-24 23:33:59

Do you need plants for your fish bowl and can fish live like a fish bowl or small compartment without a pump??

No fish can thrive in bowls. Sure they live, but every moment of their lives are torture. Imagine living in a closet all your life, you go to the toilet in the same closet, and the waste is producing toxic chemicles that are burning your eyes and ears, and eventually your entire skin. Also, there is no fresh air, just a teeny slot in the top of the room for air. Finally, the temperature can vary from freezing to burning within minutes. Would you let anyone live like this? I sure hope not, so get your fish a proper tank

Guppies don't require a lot of living space. If you don't have a pump, be sure to change 1/2 of the water every week or so. A plant would help, too.

Beta (Siamese Fighting Fish). Only one per bowl. Very colorful.

Some small fishes can fit in a small water bowl without any plants or pump. Of course, if you want it looks pretty and clean, it is better to have them both

Buy a tank. I bought a 12 gallon bucket for like 5 bucks and i have a variety of fish in there and their really happy. Maybe cause I have a filter and a really good airpump. Plus making water changes. You gotta do research and please don't put them in a bowl.

Beta's, or Siamese fighting fish do OK in small bowls. They just need to be in a warm room, and need frequent water changes.

goldfish need pumps and plants to make their lives very interesting because at the moment goldfish can die of boredom. make sure to get a huge tank with lights, pictures and gravel in it. plus some coral.

if your bowl is spherical no fish should live in it. goldfish should most definately not live in any kind of bowl as they can grow up to around 20-30 cm. to keep fish you need a tank. yes a filter ("pump") is nescesary. fish tanks are very cheap and easy to get hold of if you buy them second hand. keeping fish in a bowl is cruel and should not be done no matter what fish you have. guppies do require living space as they can breed very quickly (100-1000 fry (babies) every 30ish days each). siamese fighters cannot be kept in a bowl either, and you cannot define anything by "bowl" there are different sizes of bowls, and although all are not acceptable for bettas (siamese fighters) some larger ones (like bi-orbs) can be acceptable for certain fish. Bettas CANNOT be kept in a small bowl in a warm room - they most definately need a filter, heater, light, and a tank of appropriate size

Please dont put goldfish in a bowl. A betta would look really nice in a bowl. You donot need a pump and plants would look nice in the bowl and your betta would like it too.

keeping fish in a bowl is cruel for a start, you can put white cloud mountain minnows in a small tank with ornamental plants and a pump(coldwater fish so no heater needed). as well as a pump giving oxygen it helps to circulate the water and stop it going stagnant and smelly.

Please don't put a goldfish. Put any fish that is not torpedo like in shape and don't place a fish that grows above 1.5 inch. Place 2 of them and half fill your bowl to have a good surface area. Frequent water change is needed. If you have sunlight, you can put plants.

in a small bowl id only out a Betta their colorful and its funny to tick them off you can put a plant in but you don't have to pulse as long as you do water changes with a Betta you don't have to worry about dirty water

Fish do not belong in bowls. Ever. They are to small, do not provide enough surface area and so on.

Try a small tank and some neons or something with a heater. Even bettas need heaters, they are tropical remember.
