Put a couple of bits of PVC piping in the tank. It will give the pleco a place to hide if needed while the cichlids adjust to their new neighbor.

Edit: Sorry, I misread your question. I don't have any experience with Cichlids so I couldn't give you any advice.
Most cichlids won't harm a plecostomas. They are bottom feeders and they are no threat to them. Atleast when I used to have fish, my fish never hurt him, just make sure the pleco is a size that the other fish won't eat him. Like, for instance, if the smallest fish you have is say, 3 inches make sure the pleco is atleast 3 inches.
Normally most fish won't hurt a pleco. The only time they would usually bother it is if it was sick. I've had tons of different fish go in and out of my tanks and never had any bother the pleco. I would think he'd be ok. Good luck!!
I had six African Cichlids and two plecos. I made sure the plecos were larger than the cichlids, because they can be aggressive fish towards smaller ones. As long as the pleco is larger than the cichlids, it should be fine. That was the advice the specialty store gave me when I picked out my fish. They did fine together.
how big is it? as long it is big enough and have a good hiding place it should be fine I have a pleco in my tank with an Oscar and parrot cichlid the Oscar chases him around some times but never no harm
I have never known a Cichlid to kill a Plecosotomus, but there is always a first time. What fish do you have? Cichlids are nasty but some worse than others.
Try keeping an eye on them. All my fish except one my Red Devil are fine with plecos. He doesn't like anything. Make sure the pleco has a cave to hang out in and just watch them. Have another tank ready, or at least plan on getting another one if they do attack him.
As long as it's to big to eat they will likely leave it alone. Pelco tend to be very tough fish. Make sure it's got lots of hiding places and it should be fine.
Plecs are pretty peaceful, and they are as tough as nails. I would think so long as you have some cover in there that the Plec can hide in during the day that you should be ok.
