I need a detailed explanation on feeding my Oscar

I hav a 3" Albino Tiger Oscar for which I dont know the type, quantity of feed I should provide it with.At present Im giving it blood worms, what else should I give it for better growth and heath?

A lot of people can confused over oscar diet so I'll give you a few pointers.

- DO NOT feed them feeder fish. Not only do you risk bringing in parasites but consider the overall health of the feeder fish. Feeder fish are often underfed, have heavy parasite loads and live in water with high amounts of ammonia and nitrates which their bodies absorb. Considering fish make a tiny part of an oscar's natural diet.

- If you have to feed your oscar live food try soft bodied insects and arthropods. Adult mealworms, waxworms, earthworms, freshly molted crickets and super worms are better alternatives. Most of your corporate pet stores like Petsmart and Petco regularly carry these. Believe it or not but larva and drowning insects makes up the bulk of the natural oscar diet.

- A 3" oscar should be fed once a day, when it reaches 5-6" feed it every other day and once a full 10-12" it should only be fed 2-3 times out of the week. No matter how much your oscar begs to be fed do not give.over feeding will only hurt the fish since an oscar's digestive system is incapable of dealing with constant over feeding.

- Feel free to use cichlid pellets as a staple diet. Frozen bloodworms, brime shrimp and live prey can be supplements. Make sure you add some greens (like peas) in their diet. Oscar's aren't carnivores but instead omnivores. Varity is key in any animal鈥檚 diet.
