I noticed this morning my black moor goldfish lost an eye What do I do2007-11-24 23:35:45

Do I need to take him out of tank? Is this normal? He was fine yesterday.

Okay, first of all how did the fish lose the eye? Is another fish attacking this one? If so, you need to separate them. There is not much else you can do. Keep an eye on him. If the tank conditions are good (good water quality) and the fish is otherwise healthy he will be okay. If you start to see signs of infection around his eye then you should move him to a separate hospital tank and treat with medication.

Question is - what in your tank would have poked his eye out? What other fish do you have in there? Do you have anything that is sharp in there (rocks, plants, etc.)?

Sorry to hear this - that is terrible and he/she is not doubt suffering, but just keep a close on on him/her and if disease sets in - put him/her in a zip lock baggie of water, and put them in the freezer until they pass. Then you can properly dispose of them.

Chances are one of the other goldfish bit him and took out his eye. It can happen. Keep an eye (no joke intended) on the tank and see if any of the others appear aggressive or if that one's fins or body appear ragged as if bitten.
