Blowfish, or rather, puffers can be pretty aggressive depending on the species you have, and are highly carnivorous. Some are fine in a community salt water tank, while others can only be kept with other puffers. Some are very territorial and aggressive and best kept in solitary tanks.

Puffers come in many sizes, from tiny to huge (as in over a foot in length), so know all about your puffer prior to buying it).

There are a variety of species of puffer. Some are fresh water, others start off fresh water and require brackish water as they grow, and others are marine.

Many will refuse to eat flakes and pellets. Most if not all puffers have fused teeth which form a beak. This allows them to crush the shells of their preferred food (crustaceans and mollusks).

Puffers require a diet heavy in snails, shellfish, clams, crabs, shrimp, krill etc, in their diet to keep their teeth worn down (if offered only soft meaty food, their teeth will eventually become overgrown and prevent them from eating).

Their beaks allow enable them to bite chunks out of other fish (many puffers are notorious fin nippers, some will eat their tank mates).

Puffers can be poisonous if eaten and a larger fish that eats or attempts to eat them can die.
