I really want a fancy goldfish, but HELP ME2007-11-24 23:35:48

I was going to buy a large tank for my goldfish who is now living in a temporary bowl (don't worry, TEMPORARY) but the tank can fit another goldfish. I really want a fancy goldfish, but my comet goldfish will tear its fins and is faster and it'll eat its food. Has anyone successfully kept a comet goldfish and a fancy one together?

Answers:

It depends.

While all goldfish are coldwater fish, fancy ones do require more tropical conditions, the temp. for fancy goldfish should never go down below 55 degrees as they are sensitive. For fancies with the bubble as a physical feature, there should be no ornaments, no fake plants as they are more prone to injuries and diseases.

But my goldfish are actually kept in a tropical tank (w/o tropical fish.no worries). meaning the temp. is usually 75 degrees.

So i guess depending on the size of the fancy you are getting, and the size of your comet.

If you want to try it go ahead, just keep an eye on the pair, and keep the fishbowl near by, don't forget the fish meds. and Doc Fish's sea salt(it relieves stress for fish, and helps the healing process(if used with the meds)).

there are allsorts of goldfish, you go to your local aquatic centre they should have a large selection for you to choose from. I once had a 'chinese fighter fish' they shouldnt be kept with any others hence the name fighter fish they can be quite aggresive but kept on their own they are fine. They are as cheap as goldfish and are very pretty, they come in a huge selection of colour variations.
Did a search and looks like it isn't reccomended to keep the two together - sorry. But if you wanted to keep two in the same tank you can buy separaters so that they have half of the tank each. That is more commonly used when you don't want males and females to continuously breed.
i have lots of guppies and mollies, i have 4 siemese fighting fish, 2 male and 2 female seperated of course. and i have 2 goldfish in another tank, they are 4 years old and are about 8 inches long, they are fantail goldfish and i love them to bits. they gey on great together and im sure that your fish will to when they settle in. fish will only eat what they need for about 2 to 3 minutes and they will leave the rest alond so dont worry about feeding time. there are fin nippers and they can cause a lot of stress to your fish, so go out and buy some stress coat and some fish medicine. just in case something happens.
Yes but in a larger pond.
