I started my tank out with 1 mollie and now added 2 more The original mollie goes after the other 2s2007-11-24 23:35:51

midsection. Is this attacking or are they opposite sex or what? I seperated the first mollie for now.

:-) I have kept mollies for a long time and my males have always done that to the females. But, just to be sure, check to see that it is a male bothering females and not a male bothering males or a female bothering females. Its easy to tell the gender of a molly. The bottom fin of a male molly isn't really a fin. Its their sex organ called a gonopodium and it basically looks pointy and they can stick it out to the side to mate. The bottom fin of a female molly looks like a normal bottom fin of a fish. Hope that helps.

They can be agressive. Try putting in more fish to distract the aggressive one. Or a big one to chase to agresser.

Two males for sure, the male mollies have a tube ( sorry I dont know the name of the sex organ) underneath it. The males usually have a high dorsal fin as well. Add a few females (about 3-4) with some decorations this will prevent the males from fighting so much. Also make sure your tank is large enough, atleast 10 gallons. I tend to find that a high ph (about 7.5-8.0) keeps the mollies looking good.

It's probably a territorial issue. Move the plants, rocks, decorations, etc around before putting the first molly back into the tank. That will usually force the fish to establish new territories with the new inhabitants.
