I think my Betas dieing2007-11-24 23:35:52

My beta is like a year and a half, and he's been acting strange, I think he's dieing. He is eating but he is always laying at the bottom of the tank and regularly goes up for air. I heard bettas only live for two years, and mabey he's just old. Can you help me out?

Answers:

Bettas like warm water in the upper 70's and lower 80's. Either move him to a warmer room if you can or get him a heater. The ones for smaller tanks don't have a thermostat so you will have to check on it to make sure it doesn't get too warm. Dont add warm water, it will just get cool again and cause your fish to get stressed which can lead to diseases.

my beta still does that to this day. and hes about 2 years old. wrong..betas can live up to 3 or 4 years. dont worry about it..betas arnt really active fish that get up and dance around anyway. its normal. maybe hes relaxing.. :)

Bettas can live much longer than two years if properly cared for. My friend has a Betta that's seven! But yours sounds like its dying.

Well atleast he's going up for air, but you may want to check for too much light or wrong tempeture. Also, consider a good tank cleaning, and give him a treat of bloodworms.
