I treated my aquarium with an antibiotic, but one fish still has symptoms What should I do2007-11-24 23:35:55

One of my tetras showed signs of popeye and septacemia, so I treated the aquarium with a 7-day aquarium antibiotic. He got somewhat better, but still has red streaks and bulging eyes. He has been more active and eating, but has not "rejoined" the other tetras and hides more often than he once did. The other fish in the aquarium have no symptoms.

You can do a partial water change and retreat. Did you remember to take the carbon out of your filters? The carbon will take out the medication so it isn't able to treat your fish anymore. Sometimes it takes more than one round of medication to cure a disease.

Get ready to buy a replacement fish.
I would isolate the fish still displaying symptoms and try to treat it individually. I would not put it back with the other fish until sympotms have ceased so as to not run the risk of infecting the tank again.
I AGREE WITH THE PARTIAL WATER CHANGE. ALSO CHECK TEMPERATURE AND GRADUALLY RAISE IT TO 80..AND LEAVE IT THERE FOR A FEW DAYS. THEY ARE "TROPICAL" FISH AFTER ALL SO IT WON'T HURT THEM AND THIS HAS HELPED ME THROUGHOUT THE YEARS TREAT SEVERAL DIFFERENT AILMENTS
