I used to have a Pearlscale Fish that would swim upside down, then return to swimming normally, have you ever seen or heard of this?

Answers:

All ornamental goldfish have a curved air bladder, and when they gasp at the surface too much, they get air stuck in they're intestines near their air bladder, and the can't get it out. It is fatal. First of all, you should always feed ornamental goldfish sinking goldfish pellets to keep them off the surface and to prevent them from swallowing air. Secondly, there is only one way to get the air out. Use a laxative. Feed them a cellulose based food (ie. plant matter) such as duck weed. It will sometimes force the air out of their system.

Fish have a swim bladder and sometimes it may malfunction this would cause a fish to do this. No worries it is not something that is going to spead or cause any pain.

this is by no means a wise ad answer but as a fish loving aquarium minded person, i have never seen this happen, when the fish did not expire soon afterward. it is to the best of my understanding that most fish have an air sack in their body and when something goes wrong with this organ the fish is no more able to balance itself. this condition is usualy fatal

Sometimes, when I practice my handstands in my bedroom, I'll see my fish swimming upside down, too. I thought I was imagining it- thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one!

I don't know about gold fish but my other fish used to do that when eating. Or mabye it was sleeping.
