I want to breed my beta fish, but how many babies will it have2007-11-24 23:36:48

I just bought a female beta and would liek to breed her with one of my males. I'm afraid there will be too many babies to care for though, i.e. when I had mice for pets.How many babies usually survive?

Answers:

It's going to depend on the skill of the male at breeding, and caring for the eggs. Plus the health of the female plays a big part. I generally say 100+, but it can be many times that. How many is hard to say as it's hard to see much less count betta fry. Generally only about 10-20% of the offspring will survive unless you're an experienced breeder. Just keep in mind that's 10-80 bettas. Also luck and great care can result in a 100+ offspring.

PS- Keep in mind many/most 1st time breeders lose the entire tank.

Mmm, I`m not quite sure but, I think from 10 to 20 babies, maybe. As for how many will survive, maybe 5.

They usually have no more than 20, and as many will survive that you can get out of the tank before they are eaten. Besides the ones who might die from natural reasons. Good luck!

You will have 200-300 baby fish. half of them you have to separate (the males).. you better be sure of what you are about to do..

If you are.. you need a room where you can fit 200 jars and buy alot of fry food.

Depends on how well you care for them. Bettas can lay up to 400 eggs. Some eggs will go unfertilized or get attacked by fungus or the male will forget about some that might drop to the bottom of the tank.it's all about how well you've primed them and how good a breeding pair they make.

If you're not prepared for this, expect to get a dozen survivors out of all that. You will see. One day you'll have 400 eggs adhering to the nest, then maybe 200 will hatch..100 will die, and by the time they're free-swimming, maybe you'll only have 50 left. Some will never reach the free-swimming stage, so they die off.

Your care can help up the numbers, but I'm talking a lot of dedication and a watchful eye. Many things can go wrong.
