I was thinking of buying a female beta to add to my tank but was wondering if id be okay with the ot2007-11-24 23:09:41

Betas can survive with no filter, also, which is why when you go to the pet store you only see them in a little cup...alone.

You could try it and see how it reacts, but if it starts acting funny I'd put him back by himself.

it is perfeclty okay but beware of a little nibbiling on the fins other fish find it funny to nibble on the bettas fins !!! but the betta is not harming anything it mite be a little teritorial !! good luck

the only problem with this is the bio load on the tank. to small of a tank for that many fish. But the female beta should do o.k. with the others though

Well, I would say they you have enough little critters in that tank but other then that, yeah...I think they would be just fine...I have 2 female betta, 4 tetras, and 2 African Dwarf frogs in my 10 Gal. tank wierd mix I know but they are doing great together...I also had a Platy in that tank up until yesterday but I moved her to a diff. 10 Gal. tank because one of the tetras were bothering her and it was getting full. Female bettas are adorable, mine swim right up to your finger and rub on it..Good luck!

Female bettas can be kept in community tanks; I have several in my platy tank. But while some of them are very peaceful, some are more aggressive than the typical male, and it's hard to know what you will get by just looking at them in the cup at the petstore.
