Ick, what a pain

Ick, what a pain2007-11-24 23:09:43

I have full blown ick. 3 of my fish are COVERED in it. so, i turned up the temperature to like 84 degrees f. and added the propper amount of aquarium salt. i also went to the store and got ick meds but the only kind availble, (the shelves were pretty empty, of course it is my luck) was jungle tank buddies tablets. i tab for every 10 gallons every 24 hours. so i treated my tank with that and removed the carbon from my filter. i know it will take a while but it doesn't seem better at all. i have a ten gallon, well stocked and cycled. i plan on continuing the meds and hoping it clears. any suggestions on ways to get them better faster and am i doing the right thing? is the medicine i got good quality? any tips would be great!

Answers:

For the heat really to work, you need to turn it up at least to 86-88 degrees

As for the salt, 1 tablespoon on 1 gallon, with every day partial waterchanges of 25%

buy the medicine so that ur fish can live..
Ick doesn't disappear over night wait around 3-5 days and it should start disappearing after all of it disappears continue treatment for a week.
i had mollies with ick before, one who i was very attatched to

:[ he died after weeks of trying those jungle tabs, and at the last minute we got this medicine from a fish specialty store. its called mela-fix or something like that and it helped the ick on my other fish clear right up, i guess it was too late for the other little guy :p. i hiiiiiighly reccomend you go to a fish specialty store, snap a shot of your fish with a camera phone or a digital camera, explain what you've already tried on your fish, and they will help you as best as they can. if they dont know what else to try, at least ask if they have any mela-fix. its like a miracle medicine lol. i had a 10 gallon tank also. you just put a cap full of that stuff in a few times a day (cant remember exact directions)

the medicine you got stinks get quick cure it is way better. i used it in my tank and it cleared so quickly.
The salt and the heat alone ought to do it. Two teaspoons per gallon is what we used when we had ich. Water changes are important too...do 25% every day, replace any salt you're taking out with the water changes. Keep the temp and the salt up for at least a couple days after you're not seeing any more spots. I'd put the carbon back to get the tank buddies cleared out. Monitor your ammonia really closely, the tank buddies could have killed off your beneficial bacteria. You may have to re-cycle.

Short term, at the above concentration, your otto should be okay with the salt.
