Ideas of fish for a coldwater tank2007-11-24 23:35:56

I've got a smallish fish tank and want some ideas on types of coldwater fish that I can mix together along with anything else I can add to the tank thats not gonna get eaten.

ie Would like some sort of shrimp / crab or similar unusual creature

Answers:

Depends on how small is your tank. You can add a Betta and a Afrian Dwarf frog. It is not a good idea to add a crab to a small tank because they are scavengers and will try to get a hold of your fish. You can keep some Ghost Shrimp as inverts. The fish you can add are White Clouds, some Dwarf Gourami's, Zebra and Leopard Danio's, Guppies, inexpensive Comet Gold Fish (keep in mind they will get large so they will need to go in a pond or larger tank later. The same goes for Fan Tail Goldfish). If you want crabs, they need to have some surface to climb out on. When adding fish with them, I suggest something fast like the Danio's and they are schooling.

How big is 'smallish'? Certainly doesn't sound big enough for any coldwater/subtropcial fish, especially goldfish. So more details are needed- size, filtration, average temperature mainly.

Not a good idea having a crab in your tank as it may nip the delicate fins of your fishes, unless you have a nice big tank.
