If I put Neon Tetras in the same tank as Giant Danios, will they get Eaten2007-11-24 23:36:03

I am thinking of getting neon tetras for my community fish tank. I have 2 Giant Danios, 2 Bala Sharks, and a few other large fish. When I put 4 snakeskin guppies in this tank, and they were eaten, but I put 4 other guppies, and they were even smaller, and they were'nt Eaten.

Answers:

As long as the tetras are healthy, the fish are fed, and there's plants for weaker fish to escape to, the chances of any getting eaten is minor. It could be that the snakeskin guppies looked particularly tasty to the danios, which are nippy fish to begin with. Unless you only provide other fish as a food source, it's unlikely that the danios will develop a special taste for them.

If the neon fits in the giant danio's mouth then they will eat the neons. if you want to give the neons a fighting chance i would suggest that you make sure the aquarium is well planted and that there are plenty of places for the neons to hide

It will be luck, which fish survive and which don't. Try rearranging your tank when you add the new fish. The original fish will be too busy scouting around to try to eat the new ones that they will have a chance to get acclimated.
