If I take my fish out of the tank while I add aquarium salt to his water, can I put him right back i
Fish are very weak little creatures and shock is an easy way to kill em. Even tho Betas are more durable then most fish. Just wait til you can do it right.
why do you need salts? you shouldnt have to add any salts to the water for a betta. in fact they are usually found in asia in rice patties near rivers so are used to stagnant water. i would not add salts to his water.
i no ppl w/ betta fish and they never use salts. (considering they r freshwater)
How large is the bowl? Adding a very small amount of salt should not harm your beta. Salt is only a preventative against disease. If you beta shows no sign of disease hold off until you come back from the weekend. Then add a few grains of salt at a time at water changes.
put some of the salt water into the cup with old water tat he stays, wait for 15 minutes for him to get used to the salt, then put him back to the new salt water tat u make for him..
but for me, i'll just mix salt water in a cup, add on to its original tank bit by bit.. you can try this..
Salt won't cure fungus only an anti fungal med can do that.
As for the salts keep in mind all animals need a little salt to survive. Adding salt to fresh water isn't only a good idea it is recommended you add a little salt a couple times a year. Salt is good for helping to control some parisites. How often you add it depends more on how often and what kind of water you use for water changes. If you use filtered water then you should add salts more often. If you have hard water you may not need to add salts at all since hard water inherently has more "stuff" in it. Normally I use a filtered water and add salts to it that way I know for sure what is in my water.
Bettas are tough but they are very sensitive to tempature changes. The wild form evolved in rice patties that have an average temp in the mid 80's F. This if very different from most tropical fish which like a temp in the mid 70's F. So to prevent a more harmful tempature shock I wouldn't take him in and out any more than I had to. Just add the salts then gently and slowly stir.
You won't be adding that much salt so it won't make a difference if you take him out or not. For a typical betta bowl I add a "thumb pinch" (you will hold the salt in a little cradle made with your first and middle fingers with your thumb covering over the top)
