Im thinking about getting a salt water aquarium, do you have any tips2007-11-24 23:37:06

I have always wanted to get a large salt water aquarium, but I'm not sure which species of fish to get, or how to add the proper amount of salt to the water. Do you know of a good website that has info for a begginer like me? I also want to have exotic animals in there, but I don't know what type of species are aggresive and things like that.

The first thing to consider is "if you're an experience fish keeper?" You see, salt water tanks are hard to keep. Not that I'm discouraging you but just like other pets, there are a lot of responsibilities in keeping salt water tanks. Do you have the patience of keeping up with water quality, pH level, salt levels and fish compatibility?

If you think you can do all those responsibilities in your tank, the take the plunge.

If you are into the salt-water fever, you must buy the biggest tank you can afford, let say a 50-gallon tank. The bigger the tank the less maintenance you need. Also, buy the best book you can find in the pet shop. In my opinion, books are better than Internet sites.

The most easiest fish to keep are those considered to be the "hardiest". Most fishes like the Sargent Major and most damsel fish are easy to keep and they are already beautiful in a tank. Stay away on the most "exotic" creatures. These exotics are more harder to keep.
