I recently started keeping piranhas. In the aquarium I noticed little clear worm-like creatures swarming all over the glass and floating in the water. What are these things, is it common and how do I get rid of them without harming the fish.

Answers:

They are probably harmless planaria. These worms appear when there is excess food in the water. Which means you are probably feeding your fish too much. Cut back on feeding a bit and increase regular tank mantenance (i.e. do larger water changes more often) and see if the worms go away.

Piranhas are very messy fish, and need an extremely large (preferably 100+ gallons), powerfully-filtered tank for their long-term survival. Weekly water changes of about 30% are generally recommended for these fish, but if the tank still shows signs of being polluted (visible worms, high nitrates, etc), you will need to change even more water than that.

They are common. They are mico worm. To get rid of them put some dewormming table in the aquarium. It will worm your fish and get rid of the little sucker.

They are from not cleaning out your gravel or sand they really can't be treated unless you take down the whole tank. But what I did was I just started to feed my fish once every other day for a little bit and they went away after a couple of months. Also if you have any decorations in your tank then you should try to clean under it with a gravel vac. That's wear most of the worms were in my tank.
