does anybody know why a pictus would swim on the top of the tank like its skimming the top of it. ive got 2 of them and they are both dong that..any answers? 10 points for best answer
Answers:Not enough oxygen in the tank. Fish will only swim near the surface to gasp for breath. You need to oxygenate the water more, use an additional pump or a air adding device.
i have had these fish and have seen real big ones at zoos and public aqariums and they are always suspended i think it's just the way they are, observe them at night when your lights are off and see if they still do it, i bet they are laying on the bottom. they are a pretty cool fish.
It may be an oxygen issue, but I doubt it. so long as you have a filter and an air pump (please know that the air pump doesn't actually put air into the water it just breaks up the surface more to allow for oxygen absorption) that should be no problem.
This might just be them swimming around and looking for some food at the top.
